"I am an Important Giant"

"Flesh Book" was featured in the group show "I am an Important Giant" at Antenna Gallery in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Initially conceived in 2006, the original idea for “Flesh Book” was to analyze and communicate population data from a variety of randomly selected species. The intention was to illustrate the importance of preserving diversity within the dwindling animal kingdom. Since that time, some of the population data for the featured animals has shifted. Because the population data has changed, the significance of the order for some of the featured animals in the book has also shifted.

Two books were displayed in tandem, perhaps I'll get around to photographing the newer edition and include it here.

The Story of Zev Valentine

The "Zev Fund" project was started in February of 2008 and has since been completed. In February of 2008 I rescued a pit bull mix from Lake County Animal Care & Control who was scheduled to be euthanized. He was plagued with heart worms and internal parasites, which were unable to be treated in the shelter.

In order to save him, I raised over $1,500 by painting pet portraits and selling prints. Today, Zev is a happy and healthy pit bull who is also a therapy dog. He visits schools, hospitals, and various organizations where he acts as an ambassador for his breed.

Since his adoption he has earned the title of "All Around Wonder Dog", has been featured in the news, become really good at fly ball and now has a little sister named Mooshie. I plan on working on a children's book featuring this fine fellow shortly.
